Insurance law change allows greater foreign investment in Thailand

Law firm DLA Piper L.L.P. said that the two new insurance acts recently issued by Thai regulators have eased the restrictions on foreign ownership in the country's insurers, Asia Insurance Review reported.

With this, permission for majority foreign ownership could be granted "to promote the strength of [an insurer] or for the soundness of the [insurance business]," said the law firm.

The acts have also changed the standard minimum Thai shareholding level from over 75% previously to exactly 75% now, added DLA Piper.
