Floods cause agricultural damage worth $17 million in Brazil's Acre state

Officials said that record-high flooding in Acre River in Brazil's Acre state has affected 87,000 people, Xinhua reports.

Floods have submerged an area of 50 square km in the state's Rio Branco city, officials said. Over 8,000 people have been forced to live in public shelters. People have been hit with shortage of power and water. The state's agricultural sector is likely to have incurred losses worth 52 million Brazilian reals ($17.4 million). About 45 square km of cultivated area has been affected.
