Malta-based Maritime Asset Security and Training Ltd. has said that ships could be at risk if they underestimate the security risk in the Indian Ocean, Hellenic Shipping Worldwide reported.
Although reports appear to indicate that the Far East is the next piracy hotspot, "the real security risk to shipping remains within the Indian Ocean, which is being 'under-hyped' by some commentators," MAST chief executive Gerry Northwood OBE said. Another official said that a series of security challenges persists in the Indian Ocean.
