Japanese authorities try to contain bird flu

Following the detection of a bird flu virus in a poultry farm in Japan's Miyazaki prefecture, the prefectural government and other bodies are taking steps to contain the virus, Inquirer.net reported.

Figures showed that Miyazaki had about 28 million broilers as of February. The virus was also recently detected in a few cranes in Kagoshima Prefecture's Izumi city. A bird flu in 2011 in the region caused economic losses worth about 10 billion Japanese yen ($86 million).
