Iceland: Continued eruption in Holuhraun lava field affecting air quality

Volcanic eruptions on Iceland's Holuhraun lava fields between the Bardarbunga and Askja mountains have been ongoing since they started in August, reports Wired.

The continuous outflow of lava has created a lava field spreading across more than 72 square kilometers. Air quality in the country has been hit because of sulfur dioxide emissions from the eruptions. A study has shown that about 40% of the rains that were recorded were acidic. Earthquakes have been persistent under the Bardarbunga caldera, with the most recent one being a 5.6-magnitude temblor.
