Pirate attacks have almost doubled in Southeast Asia: Agency

The International Maritime Bureau has said that pirate attacks have almost doubled in Southeast Asia totaling 103 in 2014 from 54 in 2011, The Malay Mail Online reports.

The increase contrasts with a fall in global piracy incidents. Globally, IMB recorded 178 attempted and actual vessel hijackings during the first nine months of 2014, compared to 352 in the same period in 2011. An IMB official said Indonesia's Bintan Island is the worst hit region.
