Local observers have said that Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway's third-party liability insurance coverage is insufficient, even though it meets provincial standards, TheChronicleHerald.ca reports.

A Nova Scotia businessman said the minimum requirement of $15 million in liability cover would not be adequate during an event such as the 2013 Lac-Megantic derailment. Meanwhile, a transport department official said the railway company can increase the cover through their access to an umbrella policy.
