Earthquake at Colombia-Ecuador border triggers fears of volcanic eruptions

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake that recently hit the Colombia-Ecuador border region has triggered fears of eruptions at two volcanoes – Cerro Negro and Chiles – reported Colombia Reports.

The Colombian Geological Service has raised the alert level to orange, which indicates "probable eruption in term of days to weeks." Any eruption would mostly affect Colombia's Narino region. Cerro Negro and Chiles have not erupted in the last 160,000 years, reports Colombia Reports.
