Death toll from disasters in 2013 lower than 10-year average

The International Federation of Red Cross Societies has said in a report that the death toll from disasters recorded in 2013 was lower than the 10-year average, Deutsche Welle reports.

The economic damage from 529 disasters identified globally has been pegged at €119 billion ($153 billion), among the lowest for the 10-year period, said the report. An IFRC official said the outlook still remains bleak as natural disasters have become more frequent due to climate change.
