A Sept. 29 hailstorm that pounded parts of Colorado's Front Range has been ranked as the state's 8th most expensive hailstorm on record, racking up an estimated $213.3 million in insured losses, the Denver-based Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association has reported.

The storm, which pelted Denver's south metro area with golf ball-sized hail, caused widespread damage and street flooding. So far damage estimates include $87.2 million in insured car damage claims and more than $126 million in insured property insurance claims, RMIIA reported.

The worst hailstorm in Colorado history occurred on July 20, 2009, causing $767.6 million in insured damage at the time, according to RMIIA records.
