California tops ranking of state workers compensation rates: Study

California has the highest workers compensation premium rates this year according to the Oregon Workers' Compensation Premium Rate Ranking, a biennial study produced by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services.

California had the third highest workers comp rates in the nation when the study was last conducted in 2012, according to the department's ranking released this month. The Golden State's median premium rate is $3.48 per $100 of payroll in 2014.

Connecticut, New Jersey and New York ranked second, third and fourth in Oregon's 2014 ranking of state workers comp premium rates.

Alaska fell from first place in Oregon's 2012 premium ranking to fifth place in the 2014 ranking, with a median workers comp premium rate of $2.68 per $100 of payroll this year.
