BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Mercer appoints chief operating, finance officers

Benefits broker and consultant Mercer L.L.C. has appointed Ken Haderer as its chief operating officer and Helen Shan as chief financial officer, the New York-based company announced on Tuesday.

Mr. Haderer joined Mercer in 2013 as senior partner and practice leader for Mercer's U.S. benefits administration business in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He had previously served as executive vice president of global benefits solutions and benefits outsourcing practices at Lincolnshire, Illinois-based Aon Hewitt.

Ms. Shan most recently served as vice president and treasurer at Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc, Mercer's parent company, and previously as treasurer and vice president of finance and corporate development at Pitney Bowes.

Mr. Haderer and Ms. Shan will both be based in New York, and report to Mercer's chief executive officer, Julio Portalatin. They replace Mark McGivney, who has been appointed senior vice president at Marsh & McLennan Companies after serving as Mercer's COO and CFO since 2007.

“We are very pleased that such high caliber professional colleagues like Ken and Helen are joining Mercer's senior executive team,” Mr. Portalatin said in a statement released on Tuesday. “In our Benefits Administration business, Ken has ensured that our full range of tools, including interactive web sites and call center support, have been enhanced so Mercer's clients' employees have the ability to choose from quality options affecting their health, wellbeing and retirement security.

“Helen will bring world class financial management expertise to the CFO position at Mercer and is a significant asset given her previous experience at MMC and other global firms,” Mr. Portalatin said.
