Bangladesh: Around 38% of garment factories yet to provide group insurance coverage

Many readymade garment factories in Bangladesh have not yet provided group insurance coverage to their workers, The Financial Express reported.

Shahidullah Azim, vice-president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, said although group insurance coverage has been made mandatory, about 38% of readymade garment factories have not executed the facility.

Every owner has to pay an annual premium amount of between 12,500 Bangladeshi takas ($161.6) and BDT 100,000 ($1,290) to the insurers as premiums for cover for workers.
