Mexico: To spend $400 million on agriculture insurance

Mexico plans to spend $400 million purchasing insurance against damage to agricultural fields from catastrophes in order to help the agriculture industry recover after natural disasters, Zocalo.com.mx reported.

A senior official from Mexico's Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food said there are 22 million hectares of agricultural land in the country, but only 13 million hectares are insured by the government.
