Canada: Hailstorm damage in southern Alberta totals $413 million

An insurance industry survey showed that the storm that hit southern Alberta in August caused around $450 million Canadian dollars ($413 million) in damage, reported Calgary Herald.

This would increase insurance payouts for natural disasters in the province over the past three years to CAD 4 billion, Property Claims Services said. In order to "mitigate against further damage," the insurance sector is having to adapt "by increasing premiums, raising deductibles and providing incentives for homeowners," an official at the Insurance Bureau of Canada said.
