Philippines: $3 million sought from shipping companies over 2013 oil spill

The Cordova municipal government in the Philippines and some fishermen are demanding that owners of MV St. Thomas Aquinas and MV Sulpicio Express Siete pay around 132 million Philippine pesos ($3 million) for damage caused by an August 2013 collision.

The fishermen are separately seeking compensation of at least PHP 81 million ($1.8 million) for the loss of livelihood from the oil spill, Inquirer.net reported.

The collision, which claimed 116 lives, saw 2GO Group Inc.'s St. Thomas Aquinas sink and spill fuel that polluted the coastline in Cordova.
