Antarctica glacier melt may accelerate sea level rise, pose risk to megacities

The melting of glaciers in Antarctica due to global warming may push up sea levels sooner than previously thought, posing serious threat to metropolises such as Shanghai and New York, a study led by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research said.

If greenhouse gases continue to rise, ice discharge may raise sea levels by up to 37 centimeters this century, Bloomberg reported. Anders Levermann, the study’s lead author, said this is a big range and that is why it is a risk.
