Australia: Disaster costs could increase two-fold in next six years, researchers say

Australia's Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre has said the cost of natural disasters could increase two-fold in the next six years, ABC News reported.

In recent days, strong winds lashed Tasmania's south, while storms and flash flooding hit the north and northwest. "Days of high fire danger, or severe, or extreme [weather conditions], in all categories, it appears we're getting more of those days across the south-east of the country at the moment,” Tasmania's chief fire officer Mike Brown said.
