Sri Lanka: Prolonged drought affects more than one million peopleReprints
Prolonged drought in 14 districts of Sri Lanka has severely affected around 1.15 million people, Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said.
The main rice producing regions in the country have been affected, Xinhua reported.
A severe drought seen in 2012 reduced economic growth to 6.7% from the projected 7.2%.
Analysts have said the 7.8% growth projected for 2014 could also be similarly affected.
