Suppliers of nuclear equipment in India, including international companies, are worried about a paucity of insurance cover and have expressed their concerns to the government, Outlook India magazine reported.
The government said it has held talks about the issue with Indian public sector insurers. Under the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act 2010, only an operator is required to furnish an insurance policy or such other financial security or combination of both covering his liability, according to Jitendra Singh, minister of state for the Department of Atomic Energy, Outlook reports.
