India: Melting glaciers in Himachal Pradesh pose flood risk

Melting glaciers have given rise to six to seven large glacial lakes near Neelkanth Lake in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district, with some posing serious flood risk to the region, India Today reported.

Official sources told Mail Today that the tributaries of Chenab could flood if there is a breach in the lakes. Ravi Thakur, a member of the Lahaul and Spiti Legislative Assembly, said some of the lakes have begun flooding catchment areas, reports India Today.
