China: Damage from Typhoon Rammasun totals $4.3 billion

Typhoon Rammasun, the strongest typhoon to strike southern China in 41 years, has claimed 18 lives and caused economic damages of $4.3 billion, the government and state media said.

The storm damaged 37,000 homes and destroyed crops in 468,500 hectares of land in Hainan and Guangdong provinces and Guangxi, reports The Associated Press citing Xinhua News Agency.

The typhoon also disrupted train and flight services across the region.
