China's food authority is set to promote a food-safety liability insurance program in high-risk sectors, reports Asia Insurance Review citing the China Daily.
The national legislature has reviewed a draft amendment to the Food Safety Law for this purpose. Chen Xu, deputy director of legal affairs for the China Food and Drug Administration, said that the amendment to the food safety law did not make the program mandatory because of the increased cost to food companies and consumers.
