Japan: Five-fold increase in cyber-attacks on government networks

Japan witnessed a fivefold increase in cyber-attacks and illegal access to government computer networks in fiscal 2013, registering nearly 5.1 million cases, a government report revealed.

Cyber criminals targeted regional units of government ministries and agencies, and data held by government-affiliated research institutes that handle matters related to nuclear power, The Asahi Shimbun reported.
