Lebanon: Insurance premiums up 2% in first quarter of 2014

Despite a slowdown in Lebanon's economy, the country's "insurance sector is still in good shape when compared to other Lebanese industries," Assaad Mirza, president of the Association of Insurance Companies in Lebanon, said.

Total insurance premiums increased 2% year-on-year to $393 million in the first quarter of 2014, reports The Daily Star. A report released by the association said the fire insurance segment registered 12% growth, while premiums in engineering insurance fell 51%.
