Kenya: Political unrest could drive up rates, warn insurers

Kenya's insurers have said premiums for political violence covers could go up if the ongoing politicking does not end, Kenyan daily The Star reported.

Weeks of political rallies have prompted some insurers to raise their premiums.

APA Insurance Ltd. chief operating officer Suresh Kumar said "demand for the political violence, sabotage and terrorism insurance has been on a steady increase since the Westgate incident."

Premiums have risen about 20% to 30% over the last year.
