Australia: Queensland flood victims to start legal battle for compensation

Flood victims from southeast Queensland are set to start their legal fight for compensation after filing a class action and estimates show that the compensation amount could reach around $1 billion Australian ($937.3 million), The Guardian reports.

A majority of the state was declared a disaster zone during the December 2010-January 2011 floods.

The class action names Queensland and Queensland-controlled entities Seqwater and Sunwater.

Lawyers will argue that the Wivenhoe and Somerset dams were mismanaged in the run-up to the flood peak, reports The Guardian.
