India to extend permission for ships with Iranian insurance to call at Indian ports

An Indian government official said the country will extend the special permission for ships with Iranian insurance to call at Indian ports by six months, The Hindu Business Line reported.

While the United States has relaxed sanctions against Iran, the International Group of P&I Clubs has not yet decided on provision of insurance to Iranian journeys.

Vessels without cover from the group are usually not permitted to call at Indian ports but the country granted the special permission after European insurers enforced bans on Iranian voyages, The Hindu Business Line reports.
