The economic cost of global violence during 2013 exceeded $10 trillion Australian ($9.4 trillion), an increase of more than $179 billion since 2012, the annual Global Peace Index has found.

The economic impact of dealing with violence in Australia, alone, came to nearly $40 billion, SBS reported. The United States spent 10% of its gross domestic product on containing violence, while Australia and the United Kingdom spent 4% and almost 5%, respectively.
