Southeast Asia once again world's hotspot for sea piracy: United Nations

The United Nations said Southeast Asia has become the world's piracy hotspot, Agence France-Presse reported.

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research said "piracy in the Malacca Strait continues to be a major disruptor for safe routes in the eastern Indian Ocean." The number of attacks in Southeast Asia exceeded 150 in 2013, the body said. The World Bank estimates that pirate attacks cost the global economy around $18 billion annually in increased trade costs, reports Agence France-Presse.
