Mexico: Insurance against hurricanes unaffordable for Playa del Carmen businesses

Several businesses in the city of Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo, Mexico, are tapping insurance to minimize damage during the hurricane season, reports Sipse.com.

However, not all businesses have been able to afford insurance against hurricanes. A regional commerce official said that only 10% of its members, including shops, have insurance against hurricanes. Policies on average cost around 50,000 Mexican pesos ($3,845), making it unaffordable for some, Sipse.com reported.
