Six people were killed and 40 others reportedly injured after poisonous gas leaked at Steel Authority of India Ltd.'s Bhilai steel plant in Chhattisgarh, The Times of India reported.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the death toll is higher. Steel Authority of India said "the main header of Pump House No. 2 which supplies water to the Gas Cleaning Plants of blast furnaces suddenly ruptured," resulting in "sudden loss in water pressure to the GCPs." "The blast furnace gas from the scrubbers entered the water pipeline affecting the people attending the breakdown," it said.
