Polluted rivers could cost government $11.1 billion to clean up: Colombian Minister

Colombia's Environment Minister Luz Helena Sarmiento said the clean up of polluted rivers could cost the government $11.1 billion, Colombia Reports reported.

Ms. Luz Helena Sarmiento said the government would have to spend 3.5% of the country's gross domestic product to clean waterways, El Espectador newspaper reported.

The government has allocated $158 million to mitigate El Nino's effects.
