U.K.: Global warming will lead to increase in extreme downpours, says study

A study by the U.K. Met Office and Newcastle University predicts that global warming will result in a considerable increase in extreme summer downpours in the country, BBC reported.

The researchers said that under extreme warming forecasts, there could be five times the number of "extreme rainfall events" exceeding 28 millimeters an hour. However, the scientists said this is no definitive forecast and the prediction was based on just one computer model.
