Philippines: More than 1,000 farmers receive indemnity payments

The Philippines' Department of Agrarian Reform has said more than 1,000 farmers in Isabela's San Pablo and Cabagan towns have received indemnity payments totaling 13.8 million Philippine pesos ($316,020) as compensation for losses suffered from a drought that hit in early 2014, Inquirer.net reported.

The agency and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. had in 2013 launched a program to provide comprehensive insurance against crop losses from natural disasters, plant diseases and pest infestation, a Department of Agrarian Reform official said.
