U.S. and U.K. authorities have warned about the risk of kidnapping to their citizens, especially oil workers, in Iraq's Basra region, Reuters reported.

The U.S. Embassy said militant groups may be watching its citizens for possible kidnappings, especially employees in oil companies. It said "the groups may be focused on U.S. citizens at hotels." The United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the U.S. warning equally applies to its own citizens.
