Environmental groups have said the Maldives "is not prepared at all" for the expected acceleration of sea level rise triggered by the collapse of a glacier system in Antarctica, Minivan News reported.
Maldives has around 1,200 islands and most of these lie not more than a meter above sea level, meaning that they faces a higher risk from increases in the sea level. Ali Rilwan, founder of environmental group Bluepeace, said "elevated adapted islands" are the only solution for the country.
