Seas piracy reaches lowest first-quarter level since 2007Reprints
The International Maritime Bureau has said 49 piracy incidents were recorded on seas worldwide during the first quarter of 2014, the lowest first-quarter level since 2007, reported the Manila Bulletin.
Five piracy incidents were reported off Somalia and IMB director Pottengal Mukundan said that even though "the number of attacks continues to remain low, the threat of Somali piracy is still clearly evident." Meanwhile, 12 incidents were reported off West Africa. However, Mr. Mukundan said, several attacks "have gone unreported."
