El Nino increases threat of drought in Colombia, warns climate experts

A study by Colombia's Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies said there is a strong possibility that the country will see the El Nino weather phenomenon in the second half of 2014 and early 2015, World Bulletin reported.

It said there is a 68% chance the country will suffer from El Nino between July and September 2014, and this figure will rise to 79% during October to December 2014.

Increased temperatures and shortage of rains are expected during the period.
