The Indian government is planning to create a nuclear insurance pool, after the Department of Atomic Energy found that no single insurer expressed the ability to offer the huge financial cover required for nuclear facilities, Business Standard reported citing Press Trust of India.
The country's Liability Law mandates compensation of up to 15 billion Indian rupees ($248 million) in event of a nuclear accident. There are 20 nuclear plants in the country and the number is expected to rise.
