Allied World opens Toronto office, names Gord Kerr as head

Allied World Assurance Co. Holdings A.G. has opened a branch office in Toronto, tapping Gord Kerr as senior vice president, chief agent and branch manager for the region.

In his new role, Mr. Kerr is responsible for the production and profitability of the region and managing distribution channels, broker and regulatory relationships, the insurer said Tuesday in a statement.

“Opening an office in Canada has been a strategic objective of Allied World for some time,” Scott Carmilani, president and CEO of Allied World, said in the statement. “With 12 branch offices working toward full capacity throughout North America, we have greater proximity to all of our customers and trading partners, and we are well positioned for further expansion.”

Previously, Mr. Kerr was CEO and chief agent of the Canadian operations at Arch Insurance Co. Before joining Arch, he worked for American International Group Inc. for 28 years and held a variety of jobs including as chief operating officer for AIG in Canada, Allied world said in the statement.

“His breadth of experience in the market and his extensive contacts will be a great asset as we work together to build a world-class specialty offering for the region,” Lou Iglesias, president of Allied World North America, said in the statement.
