Australia: New South Wales blows three times disaster relief budget

An annual sum of $95 million Australian ($89.2 million) was allocated to the Disaster Relief Fund, but government spending is expected to reach AUD 348 million ($326.9 million), the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Taxpayers have been hit by a cost of AUD 106 million ($99.5 million) from bushfires during the September to November 2013 period and AUD 183 million ($171.9 million) from floods and storms. Disaster response costs in New South Wales have tripled in the past six years, the newspaper said.
