Kenya: Airport receives £22.7m for fire tragedy

The Kenya Airports Authority has received 1.47 billion Kenyan shillings ($17 million) as the final compensation from APA Insurance Ltd. for the Aug. 7 2013 fire tragedy at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Capital FM reported.

This brings the overall compensation for the inferno, which gutted the airport's international arrivals terminal, to KES 1.97 billion ($22.7 million). In December 2013, the insurer made a payment of KES 500 million ($5.7 million). APA Insurance chairman John Simba said this is the highest fire settlement ever paid in the country.
