China: Insurance regulator relaxes rules on mergers and acquisitions

The China Insurance Regulatory Commission has relaxed rules on mergers and acquisitions, allowing insurers in the country to acquire stakes in more than one peer that operates in similar product lines, Reuters reported.

A spokesman for the regulator said "the new rules are aimed at promoting an optimal structure for the insurance industry and enhancing competitiveness."
