Haze enveloping Riau province is forcing oil companies to shut down their wells, resulting in potential estimated losses of 12,000 barrels of oil per day, a spokesman at a regulatory body said.
PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, a unit of Chevron Corp., was forced to close 573 oil wells, The Jakarta Globe reported. Handoyo Budi Santoso, chief of the public relations division at regulator SKK Migas, said potential losses from the closure of the Rokan block alone were 8,800 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
