BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

California health insurance exchange tops 1 million enrollees

Enrollment in California's health insurance exchange, the largest public exchange authorized under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, has crossed the 1 million-enrollee mark, state officials said Monday.

On Friday, enrollment in the exchange, known as Covered California, topped 1 million, and by Saturday, enrollment had reached 1,018,315.

“This is a historic threshold for our exchange, for the state of California and for the nation,” Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee said in a statement. “It speaks to the immense need for the Affordable Care Act and the millions of people who have been waiting for affordable coverage,” he added.

Enrollment in Covered California has surged during the last two months. As of Jan. 15, about 625,000 state residents had signed up for the program, rising to 728,086 as of Feb. 1 and to 868,936 as of March 1.

The California exchange is by far the largest of the exchanges authorized by the health care reform law. As of March 1, the Florida health insurance exchange, which is administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, was the second-largest exchange with 442,087 enrollees, up from 296,892 as of Feb 1.

Nationwide, as of March 1, more than 4.2 million people had enrolled in the exchanges, according to HHS.
