Malaysia-based Etiqa Insurance & Takaful Bhd. is "the lead local underwriter covering" Malaysian Airline System Bhd.'s fleet of aircraft, The Sun Daily reported citing sources.

Etiqa together with several other local insurers and reinsurers are said to be involved in insuring the Malaysia Airlines jet that disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.

Malaysian Reinsurance Bhd. is among the local players exposed to the risk, industry sources said.
