Saudi Arabia: Fires in 2012, 2013 caused damage of $91.1 million

Saudi Arabia's Civil Defense said the 89,500 cases of fire in 2012 and 2013 caused 342 million Saudi riyals ($91.1 million) in financial losses, Arab News reported.

The Council of Ministers has approved regulations that require private firms and high-risk facilities to obtain fire insurance cover, a spokesman for the Civil Defense said.

The fires claimed the lives of 285 people.
