Indonesia: 1,500 islands threatened by rising sea levels

Around 1,500 of Indonesia's islands could be under water by 2050 because of rising sea levels caused by climate change, International Business Times reported.

A report in The Strait Times suggests that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport could be below sea level by 2030. Rising sea level has seen the country lose 24 islands off Aceh, North Sumatra, Papua and Riau between 2005 and 2007, a Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries report said.
