New Zealand: Tornado hits North Canterbury, causes extensive damage

A tornado, rough weather and lightning have caused significant damage in North Canterbury, New Zealand, International Business Times reported.

Fire service reports suggest that strong winds lifted the tiles off roofs of homes.

The tornado caused power poles to catch fire. Southern fire communications shift manager Karl Patterson said Halsquell Quarry caught fire from lightning that was later put out by the fire service.
